Trump reclassified some federal workers to facilitate their dismissal.
Jin10 reported on July 18 that the White House stated that Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to create a new classification for some non-career federal employees, making it easier for them to be fired if they fail to carry out the President's priority tasks. According to a White House briefing, the new classification is called "List G" and will apply to employees involved in policy making; from now on, these employees are expected to leave when the President who appointed them leaves office. This executive order could put a significant number of the approximately 2.3 million federal employees at risk of losing job protections, effectively making them employees who can be fired at any time. Earlier this year, Trump hinted at this adjustment, saying that the federal government would ultimately "operate like a business." Trump had also ordered the reclassification of many government employees at the end of his first term, called "List F," which former President Biden canceled on his first day in office in 2021.
