Wood noted that the trend in retail spending has been unstable this year, with fluctuations each month, but as inflation decreases and wages rise, the overall trend is a strengthening of consumer confidence. He pointed out that consumers can save a little less and spend a little more, and confidence surveys show that the willingness to do so is increasing.
