Jin10 reported on May 6 that on May 6 local time, Poland, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the EU, clarified its position on the U.S. tariff increase issue in the European Parliament. Adam Szłapka, the Polish Minister for European Affairs, stated that if trade negotiations with the U.S. fail, the EU will consider all options to defend its interests, including bringing a lawsuit to the World Trade Organization. On that day, Szłapka reiterated in a debate in the European Parliament that the U.S. imposition of additional tariffs on the EU is unfounded, "The tariffs are essentially taxes paid by businesses and ultimately borne by consumers. They will raise import costs, disrupt the Supply Chain, and force businesses to either absorb the costs or raise prices, thereby exacerbating inflation." Szłapka believes that while the EU welcomes the U.S. decision to suspend some tariffs for 90 days, it remains deeply concerned about the potential new tariffs and the uncertainty that U.S. government policies bring to the global economy.
