Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives struggle to reach a consensus on the tax cut bill, and Trump harshly criticized: MAGA is not happy!
According to Gate News bot, Reuters reported that on Wednesday, House Republicans hesitantly took a step forward in advancing President Donald Trump's massive tax and spending bill, seeming to overcome concerns from a few hardliners about its costs. However, the measure then stalled again. While lawmakers were busy with closed-door meetings, a procedural vote lasted for more than seven hours to give Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson time to persuade opponents to support the bill signed by the president. Ultimately, this procedural measure was passed with 220 votes in favor and 212 votes against, aligning with party positions, indicating (but not guaranteeing) that Trump may have won the support of skeptics. Subsequently, the House began voting on a preliminary measure needed to advance the bill to the main voting stage, but the Republicans failed to secure enough votes due to five Republicans voting against Trump, which was sufficient to defeat the bill. Any of these individuals could still change their vote. Trump expressed dissatisfaction around midnight Washington time (04:00 GMT) as the bill he has been promoting as the "Big and Beautiful Act" has yet to overcome procedural hurdles, while voting in the U.S. House of Representatives continues. "The largest tax cuts in history and a booming economy, compared to the largest tax increases in history and a failing economy. What are the Republicans waiting for? What exactly do you want to prove? 'Make America Great Again' (MAGA) is not happy, and it is draining your votes," Trump wrote on his "Truth Social" platform late Wednesday into Thursday morning. A small number of so-called fiscal hawks opposing deficit spending voted against it, along with all the House Democrats who criticized cuts to social spending.
