Behind every naturally grown account, there is a profound understanding of the content recommendation algorithm of the X platform (Twitter). I will publicly share some "lessons learned" that have helped me achieve extraordinary results in the account growth process.
Release time
The timing of posts has a significant impact on interaction volume. I am in the Eastern Standard Time (EST) zone, and most of my audience is also in the Eastern to Pacific Time zones (EST - PST) ... So my usual posting hours are from 9 AM to 9 PM, with peak traffic occurring around 10 AM to 4 PM. You need to experiment on your own, based on your audience and the browsing habits you've cultivated with them, to find the best times for views/interactions.
Posting Frequency
This is a general rule, but posting more than 1 post per hour will reduce the reach of each individual post and force the algorithm to prioritize one of them in front of your followers. The experience suggests that there should be more than a 1-hour interval between two posts.
Tag (@)
Never @ more than 3 accounts in a single post. This will completely ruin your reach... especially if the accounts you @ do not interact afterwards. I have found that, generally speaking, unless the @'d accounts interact quickly after the post is published, @'ing any account in the original post will be downgraded by the algorithm. However, as your account grows, the impact of this issue will diminish, but it is still worth noting. I prefer to @ relevant accounts in popular comments.
External link
External links can severely affect dissemination. Both Nikita and Musk have stated multiple times that they will not be devalued, but the reality is that when people click on links, the time they spend on the post decreases. To be honest, based on my personal observation, I do not believe at all in the claim of "not being devalued"; I am 100% convinced that external links will cause a post to be devalued by the algorithm. The best practice is to place recommended links or other external links in popular comments.
Basically, if the text of your tweet exceeds the platform's default maximum character count for a single post, what will be displayed in the timeline is a truncated version, and users can click "See more" to expand it. If your tweet is of high quality or has a good beginning, this can greatly enhance its reach, as people will click to expand. However, if the first 140 characters (approximately) are poorly written, this tactic is completely useless, and no one will want to click "See more".
Spacing
In a similar logic, you will find that many accounts space out their posts line by line and leave blanks. Rather than saying this is a "algorithm tactic," it is more of a trick aimed at the short attention span of young users. When people see large blocks of text exceeding 3 lines, they generally skip over it. By breaking down and formatting the content of the post, it increases the likelihood of readers spending time reading, thereby allowing users to stay longer on the post, enhancing interaction, and expanding the range of algorithm recommendations.
Illustration
A high-quality image can definitely enhance a post. What if the text exceeds 10 lines? In that case, you're likely going to need to include an appropriate image to capture the user's attention. If the content of the image is interesting, it actually has a positive effect on interaction. This is because it forces people to spend more time trying to understand it, increasing the time users stay on the post. However, poor-quality or meaningless images will make people scroll away faster. Use with caution.
Hook
In my opinion, this is not as critical as some "masters" say. A good start surely helps, but it is not a necessary condition for a post to go viral. I have used very effective examples: like "In the past X days, I earned X money purely from social capital," then discussing Polkadot or other projects I've worked on that can generate income. If I had changed the way I started, these posts might not have attracted so much attention; people just want to know how to make money by posting.
Theme Consistency
I am still exploring this, but generally speaking, the audience prefers content that they find comfortable and familiar. Such content is easier to understand and does not require too much active thinking from people (I won't comment on whether that's good or bad). For me, this means occasionally launching content series, so that visitors to my homepage have clear expectations about the posts. This can also cultivate fan loyalty; a good series of content can create a lot of interaction and attention in a short period of time.
Quote Tweet
This is a double-edged sword. If used well, it can help you soar to great heights. If you can reference a high-value, high-audience account's tweet, and your own post receives positive responses, then you can expect to go viral. But if you post something foolish and get blocked by the other account, then it's game over; you have ruined your own chances. To effectively use quoted tweets, you need to grasp the timing and have situational awareness; there are quite a few nuances. Some people have reported that the overall interaction and exposure of quoted tweets are lower... My personal experience is the opposite, but this may be related to the composition of my audience.
Pinned Post
This is probably the most misunderstood point, mainly because the rules were recently updated... Previously, the situation was that a pinned post would only receive algorithmic recommendations once every 24 hours. It has recently been updated to once every 12 hours, based on the new message notifications in the iOS app. If you try to pin a post within 12 hours after pinning the previous post, this notification will appear. Make sure to make good use of pinned posts; every time someone visits your homepage, they will see it. Moreover, there is now a specific information flow in "Recommended for You" that highlights "Recently Pinned by People You Follow," which will further emphasize pinned posts. Most people have not properly utilized the pinned feature, which can become your competitive advantage.
