Canada ends its fight against U.S. lumber tariffs and seeks a broader protocol.

On September 19, Jin10 reported that Canada has withdrawn its challenge to the U.S. imposition of certain softwood lumber import duties, which the government referred to as a "strategic choice" as Canadian Prime Minister Carney seeks to reach a trade agreement with U.S. President Trump. Canada's Global Affairs Ministry stated that the Canadian government has withdrawn two separate appeals related to the U.S. anti-dumping duties imposed on softwood lumber trade from June 2017 to December 2019. Spokesperson John Babcock said in an email statement, "Canada made this decision after close consultation with the Canadian industry, provinces, and key partners, reflecting a strategic choice to maximize the long-term interests and prospects of negotiating a solution with the U.S." He added, "Canada still firmly believes that the U.S. anti-dumping duties on softwood lumber are unfair, unreasonable, and not in accordance with U.S. law."
